I love looking at design blogs. Love the photos of beautifully designed homes. There are a lot of talented women out there in blogland who have a great eye for design and a wealth of great ideas. I have never claimed to have that talent myself. I enjoy the hunt for deals, watch HGTV religiously and have stacks and stacks of decorating magazines that I browse through. But let’s be honest here, I NEED HELP!!!
I want to put an area rug in my living room, where the new floors are very DARK! Most things in the room are dark. I can’t afford to buy new furniture. I need a suggestion for a 5 x 7 rug to go under the wrought iron and glass coffee table. Do I go with a light solid, a small pattern, a zebra stripe (ha!!) or something else entirely different? Before the floors were installed, we had a sea grass rug in there. My husband has now claimed that one for the office.
Any and all suggestions and or “constructive” criticism are appreciated….

hmmm, gorgeous floors and love the sofas you already have, how about a light coloured rug to sit under the coffee table possible with a plaid/check with a blue beige even chocolate running through it to tie in the cushions and the slipcovered chair...& some cream cushions on the sofa to lighten and tie in the chair.
maybe a large mirror on the wall behind the sofa or a mirror added to the collectoin of pictures to add some light
something in the corner, an urn? with some pale sticks/foliage display
soft, undressed drapes to soften the floors and add some texture to the room (though i love undresssed windows too, so if it's private it's great to have no drapes!)
hope that helps, I'm in no way a design expert!!!!!!
of course, you could also paint everything white and distress it and slipcover the sofa, bit of a longer job tho!
thanks so much for popping by my blog, nice to have found you

Thanks Sarah for the ideas, its funny, the couch used to have a light slipcover on it - should have kept it - light pillows are a good idea too. I used to have a palm tree in the corner-hubby said it looked dead-HA! time for a new plant. I appreciate you stopping by.
this is my first visit...came over from a beach cottage...so I hope you don't mind me giving my two cents! a light solid rug is my first choice...zebra pattern is my second choice. If you choose a patterned rug, I'd definitely make sure it's mostly light colors. That will really lighten it up. Btw...floor-length drapes the color of your throw pillows would also look stunning! have fuN!
Take a look at the Pottery Barn catelog-I love their rugs and I think a patterned one in lighter colors would be great!
Thanks for visiting my blog. I'm scared to death to attempt to give advice on decorating... since I can't even buy a candle or napkin ring without consulting everyone first. @@ But...my immediate thought was a light colored rug would be so pretty on those gorgeous floors. I LONG for dark wood floors, but my furniture is dark brown leather... may be a bit "much" you know? I really like your blog and I'm going to bookmark you!
I say a light rug would look the best. Somthing maybe in the gold/taupe family with white or ivory and burgandy pattern. (A less busy more subtle pattern). If you tie in the colors of the darker sofa, the wall color and the slipcovered sofa it would be perfect!
I love those floors I don't like to cover floors that pretty I actually prefer bare floors for the most part, I have a different suggestion, how about painting the table a light creamy white and sand it to be a bit shabby, the thing with the dark floor and dark table the table gets lost .
If you really want a carpet a light colored solid with a contrasting tape would be nice as well.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.
